Gum Arabic is one of several Acacia tree gums available in the Horn of Africa. Acacia Gum or Arabic Gum is a natural gum made of hardened sap of various species of the Acacia tree. Our Arabic Gum, like our other Younis Aroma products is harvested in the Land of Punt (North Eastern Somalia). We offer Gum Arabic in two different colours: red and white.

Frankincense Frereana (Boswellia Frereana), often dubbed as the King of all Frankincenses. The raw gum resins are collected from “maydi” trees which grow on seasonal rain only on solitary hardly reachable locations of steep mountainous rocks up on the north eastern Puntland State of Somalia.

Traditionally, Somalis have maintained the use of the raw gum resins for incense burning, aroma, health and body beauty for centuries. One old local legend translates the origin of the word “maydi” as ‘meyd-diid’ meaning ‘against death’ with reference to perhaps the mummification of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt and their frequent visits to Puntland, the Land of Aroma.

Myrrh is a gum resin which comes from a tree named Commiphora myrrha, commonly found in Somalia and parts of neighboring Ethiopia. Myrrh is the gum resin known as “malmal” of the “dhidin” tree, in Somali, related to frankincense and widely used locally in health and beautifying ingredients. 

According to Dr. Josh Axe, among other researchers, “Myrrh resin is still commonly used today as a remedy for a variety of ailments.”
